These look cool, but I don’t think the series lands on any sort of meaningful subject. Cropping serves a a specific function (which is to leave out certain details, leaving just the desired information) and the crop selections here seem arbitrary. Some show nothing, some close in tighter on the subject.
I think this series would be stronger if it was more consistent and addressed a real issue. Some of these seem to avoid the harsh subject for meaningless small talk, which is interesting, but the last one doesn’t. I think a series on cropped journalistic photos, like the ones we have here, could speak to the problem of narrative and subjectivity in journalism if it was done right. I just feel like these images landed just outside the mark.
